Hi! I’m Ritu Kothari.

My life is about teaching people how to create vitality, energy and longterm health in their lives, without the need for deprivation, suffering and ongoing struggle.
My teachers and mentors have been industry leaders in the fields of weight loss, disease management, teaching and lifestyle medicine. Sharing all that I have learned gives purpose to my life and makes everyday a great day!

My Background

My Younger Years

I grew up in South Western Ontario, Canada. As a child I moved a number of times with my family and called London, Guelph, Woodstock, Hamilton, Kingston and Mississauga my home before my 16th birthday. I attended 3 different high schools and always felt like the newbie. Moving around was difficult but when I look back I am grateful for the social skills it forced me to develop fast. Silver linings…

My Formal Education

I have a Master’s Degree in History from Western University and did my Teacher education at York University in Toronto. My first “official” job after university was working as a digital content writer for an information technology firm. This got me interested in writing content for an online audience.

Additional Qualifications

I have added to my education and experience in the following areas:

  • Certified health and wellness practitioner
  • Fitness trainer
  • CBT certified
  • Business consultant for multi-disciplinary medical clinics
  • Always a Teacher

I wanted to be a high school teacher since I was 5 years old 🙂 I derive tremendous happiness from empowering my students to achieve their personal and academic goals. While teaching I do notice that many students are very focussed solely on academics or one aspect of their lives, with little attention or time given to their overall health and mental wellbeing. Stress levels run high and most students have poor habits around eating and sleeping. I am concerned with high stress and anxiety levels amongst my students and continually try to foster in them strategies for emotional, physical and mental health. I believe that overall health, happiness and mental wellbeing are the cornerstones for longterm success.

    My Realization from Patients

Once I realized my love for lifestyle education, I started working in clinical environments with patients on various health care initiatives. My experiences exposed me first hand to the difficulty and frustration that people face in reaching their health and lifestyle goals. When talking to patients many mention the complex and conflicting information available on the internet as one problem they face in making health choices.

    Why LiveRightMD?

I started LiveRightMD with one guiding principle – to address the lack of actionable and trustworthy information available for patients, clients, and youth to live their best life possible!

    Getting to Know Me Better

    My Eating Habits

I eat very well about 85% of the time (I have a definite sweet tooth). Mostly I eat vegetables, fruits, nuts and grain with the occasional serving of meat. I do not believe in labeling my eating or creating hard and fast rules. I try and give my body what I feel it needs.

    My Most Important Realization

Realizing that I can keep teaching and create a useful, well written blog at the same time… For the longest time I felt that I had to give something up to gain something – no more. You can really have it all if you get well organized 🙂

    My Views on Friendship

Worthwhile friendships are strong and can take stress without breaking. They push you to grow and challenge your own beliefs. They do not wear you down but rather they lift you up.

    My Health Challenge

I have had to recover from 2 major car accidents. I work daily to manage chronic lower back pain – once it takes hold it can knock me out for two months at a time. Part of the reason I became so interested in exercise, sleep and eating right – looking for ways to prevent its onset and proactivity manage my health.

    My Passion

Teaching people that they can have it all… You don’t need to sacrifice your health to be successful in school or in your career. Health can be what you rely on as your foundation to do better!
